Strengthening the social foundations for the peaceful development of selected communities in Anbar by leveraging its strong relationship with the Ministry of Education and the Directorate of Education in Anbar Governorate as well as local peace committees that are supported by other partners such as Exploration for Research, Training and Development Firm.

Mercy Corps would carry out peace education activities for the children and youth in the targeted schools in Fallujah, Heet and Ramadi. Mercy Corps would also benefit from its extensive experience working with community organizations, local civil service to provide with peace education capacity building in the targeted areas to implement programming in social facilities (youth and community centres). In general, Mercy Corps would support the roll-out of the program in areas with mixed populations (ethnic and religious diversity) where safe return is hampered And sustainable reintegration due to intercommunal tensions and lack of governance structures, in order to maximize the impact of the programme.

The Education for Peace/Phase II program would work closely with the Ministry of Education and the Directorate of Education in Anbar Governorate as well as the Ministry of Education Youth and sports supported by other partners. Mercy Corps would conduct training courses on peace education for 16 teachers and educational counselors from the Directorate of Education in Anbar Governorate to enable them to train other 160 teachers and counsellors were trained in Heet, Fallujah and Ramadi in partnership with the Exploration for Research, Training and Development Firm. Also, Mercy Corps would conduct trainings on peace education for 10 employees of the Directorate of Youth and Sports in Anbar Governorate and prepare them to train 100 Civil society organisation employees in Heet, Fallujah and Ramadi.
